Seattle native Reed Baker-Whiting has been named to the MLS 22-Under-22 list that was released today, coming in at No. 17. The 21-year-old Nashville SC fullback had spent the previous five seasons with the Seattle Sounders after signing as a Homegrown Player at 15 years old.
Snyder Brunell came in at No. 29, narrowly missing the cut. No other Sounders warranted any mention.
Baker-Whiting’s potential had never been in doubt, but he struggled to find consistent playing time for a variety of reasons. Over the offseason, he was sent to Nashville in a cash-for-player trade that netted the Sounders $800,000 up front plus an additional $300,000 in potential incentives, while retaining 20% of any future sale.
In Nashville, Baker-Whiting has thrived. Playing almost exclusively as a left back, Baker-Whiting has played nearly 2,000 minutes, started 22 times and logged three goals and five assists across all competitions for the Supporters’ Shield leaders. All of those are career highs.
Baker-Whiting is the fourth player from the Sounders Academy to make 22 Under 22 list, joining DeAndre Yedlin (2014), Jordan Morris (2016, 2017) and Obed Vargas (2024, 2025). Other Sounders to make the list were Fredy Montero (2010) and Cristian Roldan (2015, 2016, 2017).
