After 62 games, the biggest, most well-attended and arguably most competitive Women’s World Cup to date is finally reaching its conclusion. The semifinals both saw teams come back from a deficit before a heartbreaking end, with Spain dispatching Sweden, 2-1 thanks to an 89th minute goal by Olga Carmona, while England defeated the hosts Australia, 3-1, despite Sam Kerr coming to life with a wonderstrike to send millions of Australians into a tizzy.

The Matildas have one more chance to show off for their home fans and help cement lasting change for women’s soccer in Australia when they face Sweden in the third-place match in Brisbane. England and Spain will face off in Sydney the following day to see which team will add a star above its crest and join an elite list of Women’s World Cup winners.
