D.C. United vs. Sounders: Highlights, stats and quotes

“The reality is we’ve won one game. That’s where we start, I’m pretty pragmatic. We can’t deny that.” - Brian Schmetzer

The Seattle Sounders jumped out to their first road lead of the season, but were undone shortly thereafter when Stefan Frei was red-carded while giving up a penalty. Christian Benteke converted from the spot then added a towering header to give D.C. United the lead that they’d maintain for a 2-1 win on Saturday. Despite being down a man for well over half the game, the Sounders had plenty of chances to grab an equalizer only to be undone by some good saves, the post and some regrettable misses to continue their worst-ever start to a season at 1-5-3.
