St. Louis City vs. Sounders: Gamethread

The Sounders visit St. Louis City at 5:30 PM.

LINEUPS: The Sounders are going with the same lineup they used in their last league game against the Vancouver Whitecaps, with the one change being Cody Baker for Nouhou. Perhaps more notably, Pedro de la Vega was not included in the roster after being listed as questionable.

For all their struggles through the first 14 matches of the season, the Seattle Sounders have a chance to move into a playoff spot if they can beat St. Louis City SC on the road today.

Since their disastrous 0-2-3 start, the Sounders have managed to go 3-3-3. St. Louis City come into this match on a two-game losing streak, and are 2-1-2 in their last five.

To the degree the Sounders have had success, it’s been mostly on the road, where they’ve gone 2-1-0 in their past three.

Notes

  • The Sounders beat St. Louis in both of their meetings last year, winning 3-0 and 2-0.
  • Kalani Kossa-Rienzi has been called up via short-term loan for this game. He scored the game-winning goal against Phoenix Rising on Wednesday.
  • Raúl Ruidíaz has 14 career game-winning goals in 61 career road games. He will tie Jeff Cunningham for second on the all-time MLS list with his next game winner. Chris Wondolowski has the all-time lead with 17. No one else in the top 5 has scored as many as 14 goals in fewer than 129 matches.

Editor’s note: We’re quite aware of the issues we’ve been having with comments failing to load in gamethreads, especially when we’re at peak action. We’ve been deploying a series of fixes and are continuing to try other things. In simple terms, our servers are getting overloaded. Unfortunately, it looks like we might be running out of options short of spending significantly more money to expand our capacity. As we’re now a self-funded operation, we have limited resources and the prospects of something like this paying for itself are not very high. While aware this might not be a solution for everyone, I did want to offer one that might be attractive to some of you: Join our Discord. Yes, this still means you need to be subscribing at the Supporter ($75/year) level or above, but I suspect some of you already are. If that’s the case, just shoot us an email  and we’ll get you squared away. If you’re not already subscribing at that level, consider this an invitation.
