Snyder Brunell, a Tacoma Defiance midfielder, has been named to the United States U18 roster for upcoming UEFA Friendship Cup that will run from May 30-June 11 in Switzerland. He will likely miss two Defiance matches.
The tournament features eight teams, with the USA scheduled to face France (June 1), Argentina (June 4) and Australia (June 7) in the group stage. The Group A winner will face the winner of Group B — which consists of Japan, Portugal, Senegal, and Uruguay — in a championship game, while the group runners-up will play in a third-place game.
Brunell has made 10 appearances for the Defiance this year, logging about 800 minutes. That included going all 90 minutes in a 3-2 loss against the Portland Timbers in the U.S. Open Cup. The 18-year-old has already made 54 appearances with the Defiance and two more with the Sounders, with five goals and eight assists in his professional career. He made his youth national team debut earlier this year when he faced Morocco in March.
