Quotes

SOUNDERS FC HEAD COACH BRIAN SCHMETZER

On Stefan Frei’s reaching 400 appearances with the club:

“Well, the ceremony on the field, he didn't want to have anything big because he's a very humble man, but he deserves all the accolades. And, you know, he's been such a vital part of our success. So, you know, in my book, he’s the best scorekeeper in MLS over the last course of, you know, how many years have he been here? eight years? Twelve? Sorry Stef, I should’ve known that but I didn't want to put, you know, your age, I didn't want to put your age into the conversation. He's been here a long time, and he's great.”

SOUNDERS FC MIDFIELDER ALBERT RUSNÁK

On his goal celebration:

“I was just frustrated. I was frustrated the whole game. Didn’t find the space and [the chances] kept brewing and brewing and when I scored I just let it out. I’m not sure if it was happiness or frustration. I don’t know what it looked like, I’ll have to probably look back but that’s what it was.”

SOUNDERS FC FORWARD JESÚS FERREIRA

On how needed the goal was:

“I think we knew that the game was going to be a little different than usual, being an earlier game with the sun out, the turf being different. Different bounce, different everything. So, we knew that we were going to have to adapt quickly. We had a lot of chances, we said that the beginning of the game that we wanted to come out and make sure that we got energy. But I think we have to continue that energy. I think the second half was a little slower, we came out a little slower and they were able to come out in the flanks and counterattack us, but I think we did a good job in maintaining our head and adapting to the field.”
