The Tacoma Defiance’s storybook U.S. Open Cup run came to an end, but not before they gave the Portland Timbers everything they could handle in what was ultimately a 3-2 loss in the Round of 32 on Saturday.
Osaze De Rosario and Yu Tsukanome both added to their impressive goal totals, while Georgi Minoungou picked up assists on both goals as the Defiance erased a 1-0 halftime deficit and led for much of the second half. But a couple defensive lapses allowed the Timbers to salvage the victory.
