Seattle Reign gave up two goals in two minutes in the first half, but then went on to score two goals in two minutes just before the final whistle to earn a comeback draw against the Chicago Stars.

Ludmila scored in the 11th and 13th minutes, getting in behind the Reign defense in two transitional moments.

Sam Meza and Ji So-yun came on at halftime and helped push the Reign's attack. The Reign still struggled to find a goal until the 87th minute, when Lynn Biyendolo scored from the top of the 18-yard box. Jordyn Bugg attempted to whip in a cross on a recycled corner kick two minutes later, but her cross fortunately missed everyone and swerved into the goal.

Up next for the Reign (5-4-3, 18 points) is their final match in a three-game road trip. It's also the last match before the league takes a month-long break. On Saturday, June 21, the Reign travel to face the Utah Royals. The match kicks off at 2 p.m. PT and will air on FOX 13+, NWSL+ and Paramount+.

Quotes

Laura Harvey

On the team's grit to come from two goals behind:

Yeah, I said to the team at the end there, I think we can be disappointed not to come away with more. We can feel that, but I think we need to be really proud of our resiliency and our mentality. The players actually at halftime led that. Some of the more experienced players like Lynn and Lu and Jordyn, and I thought Ji came on and changed the game. They showed, they were talking about mentality and resiliency and pushing and pushing and pushing. And we said at halftime we felt if we got the next goal, we could win it. And we had a couple of chances before we scored and we had a couple of chances after we scored the equalizer. So yeah, overall happy that we were able to push ourselves through that and come away with a point and slightly disappointed we didn't come away with more.

On Lynn's goal:

That's why we brought her here. She can do those things in moments that you need her to, and it was coming, we really felt like it was coming. And a little bit of quality from Lynn, just great finish. And she doesn't really get the credit for those types of things, I don't think. But that's what she has. That's a caressed left-footed finish. She's not smashing it. She's trying to place it in that bottom corner. So yeah, really happy for her. I know she's been a little bit frustrated to not get a couple more goals this season. So to get her in a good position to score was great.

On how the team finally figured out Chicago's low block:

I think we just were able to move. I felt like in the first half we played mannequins. I think we forced passes into people that they didn't want. We didn't move for the person on the ball and I just felt like Ji could really help us. And Sam Meza too, to be fair, I thought both of them, they're just active, they move, they want the ball all the time. And Ji's, I'm sure, got a little point to prove. She hasn't been in the lineup for a little bit now. And I met with her this week and I said, 'Look, we need a little bit more from you.' And she showed in that second half the reason why we brought it here, and the reason why she is the superstar that she is, because she can do those things. And I thought every time Ji got the ball today, she controlled the game for us in the second half. And I don't think they really knew how to solve her. And if they did solve Ji, it ended up opening up space for Sam and Sally or whoever it was. So credit to Ji because it's tough to not play at the stage in her career where she's at. And I thought that she did a great job. Second off, to fully answer your question, I think one of the biggest things was we had to keep width. We had to keep width to create the low block and getting Ji in those pockets and then being able to play out wide, I felt was really effective for us.

Madison Curry and Shae Holmes

On how it feels to come from behind:

Holmes: I think we're not happy with just the point obviously, but I think to come back and we talked a lot just about mentality and that's kind of been the theme this week and everything. We've had a pattern of kind of win and then lose and then win. So I think nipping that in the bud this week and getting the point after being down to zero was a huge small victory that we'll take on hopefully for the next week. So we're proud of that for now, but definitely still a lot to learn going into Utah.

On getting results on the road and how that will carry into their next road match in Utah:

Curry: Yeah, I think it's just our mentality going into each game. I think we started even this game on the front foot, but we just got countered on a couple of times and we found a way to respond and that just proves our point that our mentality this year is full of resilience and grit and digging things out even when things might not necessarily go the way that we want or we might not show up the way we want it first is we'll try and we'll try at the end. And I think going into Utah, we're really confident and keep stepping forward and moving our momentum from San Diego to this game and then hopefully putting a full performance together against Utah.

On what the team did better offensively in the second half and how they got Curry more involved:

Curry: I think in the second half our ability to sort of keep the ball in their final third was a lot better, whether that be through, I think Ji coming into the game really changed it a lot and helped connect the sides better. And all I tried to do was run and hopefully get across or find someone else, and that's kind of what I did in the second half. And thankfully other people had my back and we all stuck together and formed a cohesive attack that led to quality chances and then two goals.
