Preki has been on the Seattle Sounders’ coaching staff since 2018, serving as one of Brian Schmetzer’s top assistants. Most of his work is focused on the attacking players. We recently had a chance to catch up with him and pick his brain about various players. Some highlights:
On Jesús Ferreira as a right-sided winger: “He’s found a spot where he’s been effective. When you find a spot, why change the things around?”
On Obed Vargas’ growth: “I couldn’t be happier with how he’s developing. … He’s got a very, very high ceiling in my opinion.”
On the importance of Cristian Roldan: “He’s the glue of the team. He’s getting better about controlling the pace of the game. There’s more to come, he’s a willing learner. I’m surprised he hasn’t been called up to the national team.”
On Pedro de la Vega: “When you work hard in training, good things will come. I think his moment will come.”
On Paul Rothrock: He’s willing to do little things. He’s willing to run without the ball, he’s willing to run into the box, his willingness to be a pest. His work-ethic everyday is willing to get better everyday. He always wants more. He studies the game.”
