The return leg of the Cascadia Derby takes place in Portland this afternoon as the Reign travel south to face the team just two points behind them in the standings. A Seattle win today could propel them as high as second, while a loss would see the Thorns jump the Reign into 5th place.
After 42 all-time meetings between the two clubs, the series is tied – each team has 16 wins and they have split the points 10 times. The Reign secured a 1-0 win in their most recent meeting in Seattle in April, thanks to Maddie Dahlien’s 4th-minute goal.
Last weekend the Reign extended their regular season undefeated streak to four games with a 2-0 win at home over Angel City FC, while the Thorns traveled to Washington, DC, where they fell 2-1 on a Trinity Rodman goal late in stoppage time.

Keys to the game
- Strike early before the heat takes its toll
- Use width to stretch Portland’s defense
- Limit danger at the top of the box
Notes
- Lauren Barnes is back with the squad and should be available for selection, but there are two new names on the injury list - fullback Hanna Glas is out with a leg injury, while centerback Phoebe McClernon is questionable with a foot injury.
- The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for the Portland metro area on Sunday afternoon through Monday evening. Temperatures at kickoff are expected to be in the high 80s, climbing to the mid-90s before the end of the game, and not dropping back below 90 until 9 PM.
