The Seattle Sounders are one win away from playing for a spot in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup and two wins away from playing for a trophy. Those are the stakes for tonight’s Leagues Cup quarterfinal against Club Puebla.
The Sounders got here by being the only team from either league to win all three of their Phase One matches, beating Cruz Azul, Santos Laguna and Club Tijuana by a combined score of 11-2. Puebla had the lowest qualifying position of any of the eight teams to advance to the quarterfinals, but they did go 2-1-0 with wins over New York City FC and CF Montreal. Those were sandwiched around a loss to the Columbus Crew.
Despite advancing out of Phase One, Club Puebla parted ways with their coach following a 2-0 loss to San Luis over the weekend, which left them 1-4-0 in the 2025 Liga MX Clausura.
Notes
- This will be the first-ever meeting between the Sounders and Puebla, whether in a competitive game or friendly.
- If he game is tied at the end of regulation, the match will be decided in a penalty kick shootout.
- Uruguayan Emiliano Gomez leads Puebla in Leagues Cup scoring with two goals. He also has one goal in Liga MX play this year.
- After finishing Phase One with the most points, the Sounders will host any Leagues Cup matches as long as they advance unless they play the LA Galaxy. As one of the perks of winning the 2024 MLS Cup, the Galaxy earned the right to host all Leagues Cup games this year.
