Pedro de la Vega rightfully was named the Player of the Tournament at Leagues Cup after scoring three goals and generally being the Seattle Sounders’ most dynamic performer.
But it wasn’t just his offense that was impressive. The Argentinian winger was an absolute pest on defense, constantly harassing opposing wingers and playing the sort of two-way soccer that attracted the Sounders to him in the first place. That included Sunday’s final, where he was a constant thorn in the side of countryman Leo Messi, who had one of his least effective games since coming to MLS.
Apparently, Messi didn’t appreciate the effort.
