We crunched the numbers and Seattle’s 12 finals and nine trophies are more than three times what the data says to expect.

By one measure at least, the Sounders have a claim as the most successful club in MLS: more than any other team, they have overperformed at reaching and winning tournament finals.

With Sunday’s win in the Leagues Cup final, Seattle became the first MLS team to win every major trophy available to them. Their 2025 Leagues Cup joins a trophy case that already boasts two MLS Cups (2016, 2019), a Supporters’ Shield (2014), four US Open Cups (2009-2011, 2014), and a CONCACAF Champions League trophy (2022). That’s nine major trophies.

The Sounders’ nine trophies are not themselves an MLS record. Two inaugural MLS clubs have more: the Los Angeles Galaxy hold the record with 13, including a league-record six MLS Cups, while D.C. United have 12, earned mostly in the earlier years of the league. Also beating the Sounders are Toronto FC, whose 10 trophies include eight Canadian Championships.
