The Seattle Sounders will try to reclaim the momentum they lost over the previous couple of weeks as they return home to play the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Sounders enter the match on a three-game winless run which came on the heels of a 10-1-4 streak that immediately followed the Club World Cup.
The Whitecaps are 4-0-1 with a 16-1 goal differential over their past five matches and have lost just once in their past 11 matches across all competitions. That includes a 1-1 tie against the Portland Timbers on Wednesday in which they started a heavily rotated lineup. They are also poised to get back Thomas Müller, who missed their last two games, and just got back Brian White, who had missed the previous month.
The Whitecaps have been one of the top teams in MLS all season and are just four points behind in the Supporters' Shield race with a game in hand. They have also qualified for the Canadian Championship final, which will be their second final of the season.
Notes
- This will be the Sounders' third Cascadia Cup match of the year. Currently, the Whitecaps lead the rivalry table with seven points and a +6 goal difference. To reclaim the trophy, the Sounders would have to win their final two Cascadia Cup matches and overturn a nine-goal GD gap.
- The Sounders and Whitecaps have played 155 times in their combined history, which dates back to 1974. The Sounders lead the all-time series 74-54-27.
- The Sounders are missing Obed Vargas (Mexico) and Reed Baker-Whiting (USA), who are at the U20 World Cup.
