Jordan Morris’ return from injury has not been quite as good as many of us had hoped. In six games — including three consecutive starts — he has not yet scored a goal. In fact, the last time he found the back of the net was way back in May when he became the Sounders’ all-time leading scorer.
But don’t let these relatively small sample sizes deceive you. The reality is that Morris is doing a lot of the stuff that has always made him so good and is continuing to show growth in the finer parts of the game. Take, for example, the two assists he has in these six games or how he creates space for teammates.
Against RSL, he had a wonderful chance to get on the scoreboard. His penalty attempt wasn’t exactly confident — it was saved — but how he won it was sublime, taking a pinged pass from Danny Leyva and splitting two defenders.
In this week’s “Tactical Shorts” video we dig into why we’re mostly encouraged by his play as the Sounders head into the playoffs.
