The Seattle Sounders start the 2025 MLS Playoffs tonight when they visit Minnesota United in Game 1 of their best-of-3 First Round series. The Sounders enter the playoffs as the No. 5 seed, with Minnesota United just ahead of them as the No. 4 seed. It’s the first time the Sounders have ever been the lower seed in their first playoff round.
In the regular season, the Loons were victorious in both meetings. They won 3-2 at Lumen Field shortly before the Club World Cup break and then won 1-0 in Minnesota. This will be the second time the two teams have ever met in the playoffs, with the Sounders coming from behind to win 3-2 in the 2020 Western Conference final.
Minnesota spent much of the season flirting with first place in the Western Conference, but stumbled to a 1-2-1 finish to fall into fourth. The Sounders enter the match on a three-game winning streak, their longest in MLS play this season.
