Seattle Reign FC announced on Wednesday that they have recalled midfielder Maddie Mercado from her loan to Carolina Ascent of the USL Super League. Mercado was originally scheduled to remain with Carolina through the end of the season. She will be available for selection immediately beginning with Friday’s match against Bay FC.
Mercado, in her second season with the Reign, has made 11 appearances and contributed an assist for the Reign this season. In August she was signed to a one-year contract extension and on loan to Carolina, where she made six appearances – all starts – for 524 minutes and scored four goals and added an assist. That included a goal 43 seconds into her debut match, setting a new USL-S record for fastest goal from kickoff.
With Mercado’s return the Reign have 26 active players, along with three players out on loan (Olivia van der Jagt, Julia Lester and Ji So-yun) and two on the injury list (Veronica Latsko and Cassie Miller). NWSL teams have until tomorrow to make any further moves before rosters are frozen.
