Seattle Reign FC announced the signing of midfielder Sofia Cedeno on Monday. She is signed through the 2028 NWSL season and will occupy an international spot.
Cedeno was a preseason trialist with the Reign last year and was briefly signed ahead of the 2025 season with the intention to loan her to Brooklyn of the USL Super League, before both sides agreed to mutually terminate her contract to let her explore other opportunities. She later signed with Halifax Tides of the Northern Super League.
“We’ve stayed in close communication with Sofia throughout the year, and we’ve always believed in her potential and character,” Reign General Manager Lesle Gallimore said in a team release. “The timing aligned well for both sides to move forward with a long-term commitment. Halifax provided a fantastic environment for her to develop and grow, and we’re excited to support her journey as she joins the club.”
A native of Panama who has lived in the United States since she was 11, Cedeno has represented the United States at multiple levels of the youth national team pipeline, most recently being called into the US U-20 squad alongside Reign teammate Ainsley McCammon. Cedeno is also eligible to represent Panama internationally, with Panama’s head coach saying in February that she hopes to call Cedeno into the Panama senior team in the near future.
During her youth career Cedeno played for Solar SC in Dallas, the same club as McCammon and Emeri Adames, as well as for MacArthur High School in Irvine, TX, where she scored 92 goals and added 60 assists over three seasons. Cedeno was an ECNL All-American in 2024 and had committed to UCLA before opting to instead turn professional.
