No MLS team has been more consistently successful over the last 17 seasons than the Seattle Sounders. One of the side effects of all that winning is that other teams want to get a piece, often resulting in assistants leaving for other jobs.
The latest example is Andy Rose, who is leaving the Sounders to join Marc Dos Santos’ staff with LAFC. Niko Moreno was first to report the news and Sounder at Heart has since gathered more information about the change. The Sounders have also made a job-posting seeking a "third assistant."
Rose, who played for the Sounders from 2012-15, has been an assistant on Brian Schmetzer's staff since 2022 when he left the Vancouver Whitecaps where he was a player while also coaching in their academy. Rose was immediately identified as one of the top young coaching minds in MLS and has steadily seen his role grow within the Sounders and was most recently credited with leading their set-piece preparation. Still, he was effectively behind Freddy Juarez and Preki in the Sounders' coaching hierarchy.
With LAFC, Rose is expected to have a bigger role and could even be Dos Santos' top assistant. Rose played for Dos Santos at the Whitecaps – where he was given his first taste of coaching – and left a few months after the Canadian's dismissal. In addition to his history with Dos Santos, Rose also attended UCLA where he met his wife.
