Seattle Reign today announced the signing of forward Brittany Ratcliffe through the 2026 NWSL season, with a mutual option for 2027, adding a veteran attacking option to a young forward group ahead of the upcoming season. The versatile forward joined the NWSL as a rookie in 2016 and brings a decade of NWSL experience.
Ratcliffe, 31, spent the last two seasons with the Washington Spirit, where she helped the club reach the NWSL Championship in back-to-back years and posted some of her best statistical performances — scoring 4 goals and recording 1 assist in 37 appearances (9 starts). In 2025, she set single-season career highs in matches played (23), goals (three), and shots (17).
“Brittany brings valuable NWSL experience, flexibility in the attack, and a competitive edge to our group,” said Reign General Manager Lesle Gallimore in a team release. “She leads by example, brings a steady voice in the locker room, and pushes those around her to be better. We’re excited to welcome her to Seattle Reign FC and expect her to contribute right away on and off the field.”
Ratcliffe has appeared in 114 regular-season NWSL matches, recording 10 goals and three assists across her professional career. Known for her work rate and positional versatility, she has been an important depth option and heralded teammate at six different NWSL clubs. One of her most important goals came in 2018, when she played under Laura Harvey in Utah. In the 94th minute, she won a loose ball and scored from distance to help the Royals end the North Carolina Courage's 12-game unbeaten streak.
“I’m very grateful for the chance to start this next chapter of my career with Seattle Reign,” said Ratcliffe. “I want to thank Lesle, Laura, and the ownership group for trusting me. It’s an honor to join a club with this history. The staff and players have made me feel welcome, and I’m excited to meet the fans who give this place its energy. I’m ready to get to work.”
Ratcliffe is a three-time NWSL Challenge Cup champion, having won titles with North Carolina in 2022 and 2023, and with Washington in 2025.
Ratcliffe played collegiately at the University of Virginia from 2012–15, earning All-ACC Third Team honors as a junior and senior. She set a program record with 11 goals scored as a substitute during her sophomore year and finished her college career with six game-winning goals.
Ratcliffe's signing brings the Reign to 25 signed players, though Lynn Biyendolo will start the year on maternity leave, and the status of goalkeeper Cassie Miller's season-ending injury remains unknown. The Reign will begin preseason training on Thursday, January 22, when a full preseason roster is expected to be announced.
