Danny Musovski has been called up for North Macedonia’s upcoming World Cup playoff matches. North Macedonia is attempting to qualify for its first World Cup since becoming an independent nation in 1991, after just missing the 2022 tournament when they fell in a UEFA playoff.

North Macedonia will face an uphill battle this time. They first play Denmark in Copenhagen on March 26. The winner of that game will then face the winner of Czechia-Ireland for a spot in World Cup Group A, which includes Mexico, South Korea and South Africa.

During the initial phase of UEFA qualifying, North Macedonia finished third in a five-team group that included Belgium, Wales, Kazakhstan and Liechtenstein. They went 3-1-4 with a 13-10 goal differential, but lost their final qualifier to Wales, 7-1.

This is Musovski’s first international call-up, coming off a season in which he scored 18 goals across all competitions for the Sounders. The 30-year-old was born and raised in Nevada to two parents who are North Macedonia citizens, making him eligible to play.
