The Seattle Sounders have enjoyed a lot of recent success against the Houston Dynamo, carrying a 10-game unbeaten streak into today’s game. That includes five straight unbeaten at Shell Energy Stadium with the Sounders winning three of those games.
Here’s what you need to know:

Opposition players to watch
Guilherme: The Brazilian has been an absolute revelation through the first four games, racking up four goals and three assists. He’s also helped bring a dynamism to the attack that has been lacking throughout the Ben Olsen era.
Jack McGlynn: The midfielder serves one of the best dead-balls in all of MLS and is an absolute danger anytime he’s got the ball at his foot within 30 yards. He’s been playing a bit deeper this year but that won’t impact his set-piece delivery.
Stats to look smart
10 — The Sounders have not lost to the Dynamo since 2021, a stretch of 10 games in which they’ve gone 6-0-4. That might be a little deceiving, though, as most of those games have been very close. In fact, in the last 15 meetings between these teams only one game — last year’s 3-1 Sounders win in Houston — was decided by more than one goal.
400 — With his next appearance, Cristian Roldan will make his 400th across all competition for the Sounders. He will become the second Sounders player to achieve that milestone and the first outfield player.
Tactics to impress
- This year’s Dynamo are almost an exact mirror-image of how Ben Olsen has built previous squads. Where once they were a solid 4231 that emphasized intricate passing and possession, this year’s squad is playing in a 3421 that emphasizes quick attacks. They current rank 28th in the league with just 42% possession.
- The Sounders have also played a bit different than previous iterations, but that might just because they’ve had so many road games. Coming out of a two-week break, this might be when we see the Sounders return to their old ways of possession-heavy soccer.
