The first half of the NWSL season wraps up today for Seattle Reign with a visit to the Washington Spirit. The Reign are looking to avenge a 1-0 loss to the Spirit in Seattle earlier this month and to go into the June break on a winning streak. Following this weekend’s games, the league is taking a month off to avoid conflicts with the men’s World Cup group stage.
After that May 10th loss, the Reign are 14-13-8 all-time against the Spirit, which incldues a 4-7-3 road record. The Reign have scored 48 goals and conceded 41 in the series. The Spirit have won the past four meetings. Last weekend the Reign ended a 5-game winless streak with a 2-1 win over the Boston Legacy, while the Spirit had their own 8-game undefeated streak in league play snapped in a 2-1 road loss to the San Diego Wave two weekends ago. They were off from league play last weekend while competing in the Concacaf W Champions Cup, where they fell in a wild final, 5-3, to Club América.

Keys to the game
- Turn postive possession into shots
- Don’t take your foot off the gas late
- Finish the first half of the season strong
Notes
- The Reign are as healthy as they’ve been all season, with only Lynn Biyendolo and Jess Fishlock out. Head coach Laura Harvey confirmed pregame that Sam Meza has been dealing with a small knock, which kept her out of the Boston game as a precaution, but she is available for selection.
- The Reign have used a different lineup in all 10 games so far this season.
- Following today’s game, nearly a dozen Reign players will report to various youth and senior national team camps for an upcoming international window. The remaining players get a CBA-mandated week off before training resumes in mid-June. Players who are away on international duty will get their break after national team camps conclude.
- The next Reign game is on July 4 in North Carolina.
