Coming off one of the worst performances in club history, the Seattle Sounders are now trying to avoid their first four-game losing streak of the Brian Schmetzer era. They will face Austin FC tonight, a team that is in the midst of their own struggles.
Here’s what you need to know:

Injury news
Sounders
OUT: Pedro de la Vega — Knee; Kim Kee-hee — Hamstring; Jordan Morris — Quad; Nikola Petković — Knee; Alex Roldan — Hip; Cristian Roldan — Quad
QUESTIONABLE: Yeimar Gómez Andrade — Hamstring; Ryan Sailor — Hamstring
Austin FC
OUT: Jon Bell — Pubis; Mikkel Desler — Achilles
Opposition players to watch
Myrto Uzuni: The striker has not really come particularly close to living up to his Designated Player tag but he can still be a dangerous player. His five goals lead the team and four of them have come in his past eight appearances.
Facundo Torres: Their big offseason acquisition, the midfielder's return to MLS has not quite gone as planned. That said, Austin will almost certainly play through him and he has been pretty good about creating chances even if they haven’t resulted in goals.
Stats to look smart
14.5 – Austin FC's offense has been in a funk for a few years and this year is no different. Their 19 goals scored are more than just five teams, but they’ve actually over-performed their XG which is 14.5. Only Sporting KC have generated less.
9.38 – The Sounders have done a decent job of creating chances, but with a 9.38 conversion percentage they are among the worst teams at turning shots into goals. Only four teams have converted at a lower clip.
Tactics to impress
- When Davy Arnaud was a player, he was known mostly as someone who got the most out of his talent. Given the thankless job of serving as interim manager for more than half a season, it stands to reason that he’ll be doing his best to instill a similar work ethic into his players.
- One of the things that Brian Schmetzer identified as a potential issue in the Timbers loss was the Sounders’ insistence on pressing without the personnel to pull it off. Expect them to do a bit less of that and to focus on more meat-and-potatoes stuff like winning duels.
