Seattle Reign announced on Wednesday that they have signed defender Ryanne Brown to a contract extension through the end of the 2027 NWSL season. The fifth-year player was due to become a free agent at the end of this season. Brown recently scored her first professional goal, a game-winner against the Portland Thorns, in her first start back after a long-term knee injury.
“Ryanne has shown tremendous resilience over the last two years," said Reign General Manager Lesle Gallimore in a team release. "Her commitment throughout her rehabilitation and the way she has embraced every challenge speaks to the type of person and teammate she is. Seeing her back on the field and contributing was a special moment for everyone who has been part of her journey. We're pleased to continue that journey together here in Seattle."
Brown was drafted by the Reign in the second round of the 2022 NWSL draft and spent half her rookie season on loan to FC Nordsjælland in Denmark. Upon returning to Seattle in 2023, she established herself as a rotational player and was competing for more playing time when she suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in July 2024. Following a lengthy and challenging recovery, she returned to the field as a substitute in Seattle’s opening game of 2026 at Orlando and has now made six appearances this season, including starts in the team’s last two matches.

Returning to the field with this group has been incredibly special, and I'm so grateful for the trust this club has shown in me.
