Sounders injury reinforcements should arrive soon

RENTON — There’s not been an exact timeline for their returns, but several notable reinforcements should soon provide the Seattle Sounders some relief from what is already a franchise-record tying losing streak.

Pedro de la Vega, Yeimar Gomez Andrade and Alex Roldan were all full participants in Tuesday’s training session and could potentially be available as soon as Saturday against the Portland Timbers.

Yeimar is seemingly the closest to getting on the field and had actually been deemed healthy enough to travel with the Sounders on their recent two-game road trip, although he didn’t actually play. The Sounders are also perilously thin at centerback, where Jackson Ragen will serve the second of his two-game suspension. Against the Union, 18-year-old Tacoma Defiance centerback Gallatin Sandnes was even pressed into action.

Arguably the most exciting of those returning players is de la Vega, who has not suited up since breaking his knee cap on Oct. 21, 2025. The midfielder has been involved in training for the past couple of weeks and has ramped up his participation steadily. A year ago, de la Vega had 10 goals and 4 assists in about 1,700 minutes across all competitions.

On Tuesday, de la Vega seemed to be completely unrestricted. At one point, he even took a hard tackle from Yeimar — which he didn’t seem particularly happy about — but bounced up with no issue. He also showed off the impressive shooting ability he became known for last season.

“He’s been a breath of fresh air,” Schmetzer said. “We’ll see what happens, how he comes out of the week, before we make any further decisions.”

Other injuries

  • There was no updated timeline on either Cristian Roldan or Jordan Morris. Roldan has been dealing with a quad injury for about a month, while Schmetzer said Morris would miss “at least” four weeks following the quad injury he suffered on July 16.
