Seattle Reign visit one of the toughest venues in all of sports today, attempting to hand the Kansas City Current their first loss at CPKC Stadium since July 2024. Seattle has the added challenge of having played a Wednesday road match in Louisville, while the Current are well-rested since their most recent game last Friday, a 2-1 loss at Gotham.

The two sides met earlier this season as part of the Reign’s Spokane homestand, with Seattle earning a dominant 3-0 win off first-half goals from Angharad James-Turner, Brittany Ratcliffe and Maddie Mercado. The Current were notably without 2025 league MVP Temwa Chawinga for that game, and while Chawinga has just returned from representing Malawi at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, she has been given the weekend off for recovery after leading her nation to their first ever championship game and World Cup berth.

The all-time series between the Reign and Current is fairly balanced, with Seattle holding a slight 7-6-1 advantage, though only a 2-5-0 record on the road. The Reign have scored 16 goals in the series, while the Current have 14.

Notes

Sam Meza and Jess Fishlock traveled with the team and were full participants in training on Thursday and Friday, although they have once again been ruled out for today’s game. Head coach Laura Harvey indicated that the club is being cautious with their return to avoid any setbacks, since the team will soon have much greater need for them when Ainsley McCammon departs for the U20 World Cup.
McCammon and fellow US U20 teammates Emeri Adames and Evan O’Steen are expected to report to the national team following next weekend’s game against the Dash.
