Seattle Reign finally play their game in hand tonight, visiting Angel City FC for a game with massive implications for the playoff race as the season draws to a close. The Reign are currently in the 8th and final playoff spot and have a four-point gap on Angel City, who are just behind them in 9th. A win would lift the Reign to 5th in the standings, while a draw or loss would keep them in 8th, but in a much more precarious position heading into a challenging weekend game at 10th-place Denver Summit.

Seattle holds a 9-3-2 advantage in the all-time series against Angel City, including a 4-2-0 record in Los Angeles. The Reign have scored 25 goals and conceded only 14 in the series. The two teams drew 2-2 just over a month ago in Seattle, with Angel City going up midway through the first half and the Reign scoring two quick goals by Mia Fishel and Sally Menti coming out of halftime, only for the visitors to equalize on a Prisca Chilufya wonderstrike just minutes after subbing in.

On the weekend, Seattle earned a 2-0 win at home against Bay FC, while Angel City and Denver drew 3-3 in LA, in a game where Denver went up 3-1 just after the hour mark before Angel City fought back to equalize. Denver and Bay FC are also playing tonight in Colorado.

Match preview: Seattle Reign at Angel City
The Reign kick off a back-to-back road trip with a midweek match against an Angel City side nipping at their heels in the standings.

Keys to the game

  • Start strong, end strong
  • Respect Angel City’s speed and ability to strike from afar
  • Be smart with rotations and fitness

Notes

  • Claudia Dickey is once again available for selection after being out on the weekend while recovering from a facial laceration suffered late in the previous game.
  • Laura Harvey noted in her pregame availability that everyone except Lynn Biyendolo and the US U20 players traveled with the team on this trip, although Ami Diallo is not expected to be dressed for the next two games as she continues to acclimate to her new club.
  • Defenders Sofia Huerta and Phoebe McClernon could hit milestones for the Reign today. Huerta is 29 minutes away from 10,000 played for Seattle, while McClernon is 48 minutes away from 7,500 with the Reign.
  • The Reign will travel straight to Denver for their weekend game against the Summit.
