In a rather odd coincidence, this is the second time that San Diego has gone at least eight games without a win. This will be the second time they face the Seattle Sounders in Game 9. While the first meeting saw San Diego's season seemingly in the balance, this time that's undeniably the case as a loss will likely extinguish any remaining hope of making the playoffs.
Here’s what you need to know:

Injury news
Sounders
QUESTIONABLE: Paul Rothrock - Hamstring
OUT: Pedro de la Vega — Quad; Yeimar Gómez Andrade — Hamstring; Danny Musovski — Head; Nikola Petković — Knee
San Diego
OUT: Elias Achouri —UT Lower Body
Opposition players to watch
Anders Dreyer: Although his sophomore MLS campaign hasn’t quite reached the heights of his first, the Danish winger remains among the most productive players in the league with 13 goals and 13 assists. His favored move is cutting in off the right wing to his favored left foot.
Cédric Bakambu: The forward joined San Diego fresh off Congo DR's World Cup run and has emerged as the preferred starter at forward over the last couple of games. Bakumbo is a classic No. 9 who likes to set up in the penalty area.
Stats to look smart
22 – San Diego has allowed at least two goals in each of their last seven games, a total of 22 goals in that time.
14 – The Sounders have scored 14 goals in their last seven games, their best seven-game scoring stretch of the season.
Tactics to impress
- It’s no secret that San Diego likes to have the ball. Just like last year, they keep possession more than any other team in the league. The difference this year is they’ve not been nearly as effective at using possession as a defensive tool.
- Although the Sounders are unlikely to have a possession advantage, they will still likely look to have more field-tilt. One thing San Diego hasn’t done with all their possession, is convert that into final-third dominance.
