The Seattle Sounders head to San Diego FC with a chance, albeit remote, of clinching a spot in the 2026 MLS Playoffs. The main part of the equation is needing to win, and then hoping a host of other teams behind them in the standings drop points.
For San Diego, the terms of the match are a bit more dire. Currently riding an eight-game winless run and sitting in 12th, San Diego is five points out of the final playoff spot. A loss won’t literally eliminate them from contention, but will make their chances extremely remote.
Notes
- This is the fourth all-time meeting between these two teams. The Sounders have a 1–1–1 record against San Diego.
- Paul Arriola has been named a finalist for both the Humanitarian and Comeback Player of the Year awards.
- Albert Rusnák's 14 assists are tied for third in MLS and two shy of the Sounders’ club record.
- The Sounders will be attempting to qualify for their 17th postseason in 18 years. No other MLS expansion team has qualified as many as 16 times.
