The Seattle Sounders come into tonight's match at a bit of a crossroad. A win can potentially clinch a playoff spot and keep alive their hopes of home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. A loss could set up a fight to simply get into the postseason over their last two games.
They’ll face a Houston Dynamo team they’ve done quite well against, especially at home. The Sounders are riding an 11-game unbeaten streak against the Dynamo that dates back to 2021, and have never lost to them in 17 all-time meetings at Lumen Field.
But this Dynamo team has, at least at times, been a bit different than many of their predecessors. The biggest difference is the presence of Guilherme, the Brazilian midfielder who has taken the league by storm with 16 goals and 8 assists in his first season.
Aside from him, the Dynamo are also a top 5 defensive team, tied with the Sounders on 39 goals allowed.
Notes
- The Sounders would clinch a spot in the playoffs if they beat the Dynamo AND the Portland Timbers drop points on the road against St. Louis City.
- If they were to qualify, it would mark the 17th time in 18 years the Sounders have made the playoffs.
- Dejan Joveljić moved into a tie for the team lead when he scored his fifth goal since joining the Sounders.
