Quotes

Referee Lorenzo Hernandez on the non-call for the handball: “The shot was first blocked successfully by the defender’s thigh/hip and then the ball went up into his arm. His arm was in a justifiable position for someone trying to block the ball with his body, and this is the reason a penalty kick was not awarded.”

Brian Schmetzer

On the team’s plan moving forward:

“That was a pretty entertaining match. I said that the other day when we played against Nashville. You know, we're undefeated at home, but I think this game might have passed that. And there was a lot of quality, 29 shots, 20 inside the box, a lot of quality in the attacking third, and I actually really enjoyed watching that game.”

Stefan Frei

On the result and achieving 400 appearances tonight:

“I appreciate that we had a good result but also a good performance. A really, really good performance. Stoked about it.”

On good performances at home:

“It bodes well. You want to have teams not want to come here and play. That is really good when you’re looking at playoffs, the earlier you can do that the more it helps during the season as well. If you’re leaking goals and making it easy for opponents then they’ll want to come here and play. We want to establish that this is a fortress and it’s a tough place to play the better you are. At the same time that has to be earned every game. There’s no such thing as you achieve something, you check it off and now it’s a given, that’s not how it works. Be proud of it, have pride in it while moving forward and keep making it a difficult place.”

Ryan Kent

On how he feels he played at home:

“I’m still finding my feet. Before I came here my last game was back in September or August. And before that it was back in January last year. I’m still finding my feet the first couple weeks here. Fitness wise I kept myself good in my time off. First couple of weeks I felt like I had two right feet in training. [As] the weeks have progressed, I’m starting to feel sharp again, starting to feel good with the ball and knowing in games like this I want to come on and make an impact to get into the starting eleven. I thought the boys were excellent in the first half. They ran the opponents into the ground and made it easy for the subs to come on and make the impact. We definitely did that; we created loads of chances and the scoreline could have been a lot more in the end. But it’s onwards and upwards from here.”
