The Seattle Sounders announced both their preseason schedule and training camp roster on Thursday. The first of their four currently scheduled preseason games will be played on Friday against Danish side IF Brøndby in Portugal; they’ll then head to Marbella, Spain, where they will play Swedish club Hammarby IF and Ukrainian club Metalist 1925 on Feb. 5 before heading back to the Seattle area. Their final preseason game is scheduled for Feb. 15 against USL Championship side Louisville City at Longacres. The Sounders will not be offering livestreams for these matches.
About the opponents
- Brøndby is currently third in the Danish Superliga and will likely be the Sounders’ stiffest test of the preseason. They are coached by Steve Cooper, who was Swansea City’s coach when both Jordan Morris and Paul Arriola were there.
- Hammarby are coming off a season in which they finished second in the 16-team Allsvenskan. This will be the third time in four years that the Sounders have faced Hammarby in Marbella.
- Metalist currently sit seventh in the 16-team Ukrainian Premier League. Although their name suggests otherwise, they were founded in 2016 after Metalist Kharkiv was refused a license to compete.
- Louisville City are coming off a season in which they finished with the most points in the USL Championship (73 points) only to lose in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. This will be the third time in four years the Sounders have faced Louisville in preseason.
