Coming off two solid performances while on short-term loans, Peter Kingston has secured a first-team contract, the Seattle Sounders announced on Friday.
Kingston has made one start — going 85 minutes in a 1-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes — and then followed that up with a two-assist performance off the bench against the Vancouver Whitecaps in Concacaf Champions Cup play.
“Peter has earned this contract through the work he’s put in every day,” Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer said in a team statement. “He’s been consistent in training, taken coaching well and made the most of his opportunities with both Tacoma Defiance and the First Team. He’s stepped in with confidence when called upon and shown he belongs at this level. We’re excited to fully integrate him into our group and see how he can continue to help the team.”

Kingston, 24, took a somewhat circuitous path to the first team, even by the Sounders’ standards. A standout with the Sounders Academy where he was part of the 2018 GA Cup champions, he made five appearances with the Tacoma Defiance before going to college. He spent three years with Seattle University and then transferred to the University of Washington where he played two more seasons. During that time he played three years with Ballard FC, where he had 10 goals and 22 assists in 50 appearances and helped them win a USL League 2 national title in 2023.
Kingston was not picked in the MLS SuperDraft and signed with Defiance last year, where he had three goals and six assists across all competitions while playing a variety of positions.
Kingston is the 13th player on the first-team roster to have gotten their professional start with Defiance.
