RENTON – Jordan Morris has had a difficult last couple of seasons. He’s healthy and happy to be on the field again, trying to help the Seattle Sounders win games, but the goals haven’t exactly started to flow just yet. He knows it’s only a matter of time, though, as long as he keeps getting chances.

"Yeah, I feel great,” Morris said following training. "I've been very happy with my performances and feel fit, feel strong, creating a lot of chances.”

Morris has come close in the last couple of games, but hasn’t exactly had anything to show for his efforts. Rather than being upset that he hasn’t had the payoff, he’s focused on the process. “I’m happy I'm creating those chances and I know eventually they're going to go in the back of the net."

A variety of injuries have limited his ability to get on the field and do what he does best - after playing more than 7,000 regula—season minutes from 2022 to 2024, he was limited to 752 regular season minutes in 2025 and has only made eight regular-season appearances for 361 minutes so far this season. Following a strong return in the playoffs where he played all 90 minutes of each of the three matches against Minnesota United with goals in the second and third games, a muscle injury forced him out of the season opener against the Colorado Rapids just eight minutes into the game.

Despite the limited playing time over the last two seasons, when he’s been able to play he’s been fairly productive. In 2025 he had 5 goals and 2 assists in his 752 regular season minutes, a rate of 0.84 goals or assists per 90 minutes. He hasn’t been quite as prolific in his 361 minutes this season so far, but he’s not been terribly far off it with a goal and 2 assists for 0.75 goal contributions per 90. He assisted on the lone goal by Paul Rothrock against Houston Dynamo back at the start of April in just his second game back from injury, then added a goal and assist as he had a hand in both goals as the Sounders beat FC Dallas 2-1 at home at the end of April. He even added an assist in the second leg against Tigres in Concacaf Champions Cup in between those games for good measure, but he’s now gone three games without getting on the scoresheet.

Morris has a proven track record of scoring when he gets a run of games, which gives him the confidence that the goals will come as long as he keeps playing. That’s not the only reason he’s not worried about the lack of goal contributions, though.

"We're a committed locker room, a together locker room with no egos and we'll do whatever it takes to win the game and in the end it's just about the three points,” he remarked to gathered media. "I think guys are being unselfish, making unselfish runs for each other. ... I think that's something we've been focusing on, just being unselfish for each other.”

You hear talk of players being ‘unselfish’ all the time, usually when it comes to decisions in the final third, a player choosing to pass rather than shoot, but that’s not exactly what Morris is talking about.

"It's just making that run saying, 'the ball's going to go there. It's going to go there.' I mean, a lot of times talking about that near post run, you're not going to get the ball, right? It's just a movement to create space and sometimes that can be frustrating, but in the end it creates a goal for your teammate and winning the game is what matters."

Next up is a great opportunity for Morris to start finding the back of the net again, when the LA Galaxy come to town for the final home game before the World Cup break. The Galaxy are coming off of a 3-1 road loss against Sporting Kansas City, and his 9 goals against them is tied for the most goals he’s scored against any club.
