World Cup, Day 11: How and what to watch

Round two of Group G and Group H have no leaders after both Groups ended with a single point for everyone.

Today's biggest draw is slumping giant Spain, who were supposed to dominate Group H. Later in the day, on FS1 sadly, some Group G side will try to claim control of the path to Seattle. Belgium, Egypt, Iran and New Zealand all still have a chance after the soft opening round.

All matches are audio-only for free on iHeartRadio.

Every team playing on Father's Day could be back in Seattle on July 1. That Round of 32 match is between the winner of Group H and the third place from A/E/H/I/J. The winner of that match would play the winner of USA v. third place B/E/F/I/J on July 6.

What’s interesting today?

  • Spain is absolutely stacked with talent, but they couldn't break through against Cabo Verde. In a group with two minnows they must pick up points.
  • Saudi Arabia are atop Spain, for now, because they scored a goal in their draw.
  • Iran travel in the U.S. continues to be restricted. The Iran War is currently in another ceasefire where there are still exchanges of hostilities and the Strait of Hormuz is either open or closed depending on who is talking.
    • After pulling back from a one-goal deficit twice in round one, Iran must channel the home atmosphere into home performances.
  • Belgium is on the road as well, while they use Longacres in Renton as their home base. They played a scrimmage against the Sounders to keep their reserves fresh, winning 2-1.
  • In this World Cup there are minnows and then there were teams like Cabo Verde and Curacao – small, but mighty. Cabo Verde's upset draw over Spain positions the nation of a half a million people to advance, if they can work magic today.
  • Uruguay is coached by Marcelo Bielsa, the high press king. They'll be the home side in terms of crowd size in Miami. That energy and style of play will be entertaining. If there's no lead by the first hydration break the Blue Sharks of Cabo Verde may start to believe.
  • Based out of Spokane, Egypt has some of the shortest travel in the tournament – they could end playing three games in Seattle and this one in Vancouver. Mo Salah has yet to dominate.
    • Midfielders Ahmed Fathy and Marwan Attia were both strong breaking lines against Belgium. If they repeat that performance Sunday the Pharaohs should cruise.
  • New Zealand's last win outside the islands was June 7, 2025.
    • Winger Elijah Just scored twice in their opening draw. The Motherwell attacker will start again.
