Seattle Reign shot out to a two-goal lead inside the first 10 minutes at PayPal Park, with Mia Fishel and Maddie Dahlien doing the damage early, only for Bay FC to level the score with 15 minutes left in the second half. Hannah Bebar pulled one back in the 13th minute, and substitute Keira Barry equalized in the 75th.
In the 85th minute, substitute Jess Fishlock beat a high Bay line with her first touch to complete the turnaround and hand Seattle its first win over Bay FC. Emeri Adames, who also came on as a substitute, provided the assist.

On whether the fast start was part of the game plan:
"Honestly, if teams are going to hold a high line, I think we have the personnel and the personalities higher up the field to be dangerous in those moments. And because we like to play too, often teams can come and put us under pressure so spaces can open up, and I think that was the case, I think for definitely the first goal. I sort of black out on goals so I apologize. But even the last goal, they've got a high line and just getting in behind. So yeah, we like to play, but I think if teams are going to hold a high line against us, we always want to try and expose that if we can."
On Maddie Dahlien's performance:
"Yeah, I thought she was great and she's been frustrated at herself actually that she hasn't taken some of the chances she's had in recent weeks. So we were all really happy for her when we saw the goal go in the back of the net."
On going 2-0 up, seeing Bay equalize, and Seattle getting the winner anyway:
"I think we spoke about that when the girls came over in the VAR moment, because that's been a big thing for us over recent weeks — we've had two-nil leads, we've given them up, and then when we haven't, we've obviously got the points. So today will be a big growth area for us, I think, to go 2-0 up, the team, the opponent to equalize, and then for us to get the winner. I think that just shows the growth of what we're trying to do — I don't think we're there yet, but I think that's our growth area, how can we see games out, how can we shift momentum back to us when an opponent has it. But I will say I thought Hutton and Hannah Bebar were excellent in the first half in that period, I thought we found it really hard to get hold of them, and then once we solved those two, it became a little bit harder for Bay, I thought."
On what the win means for confidence going forward:
"I mean huge that we've got back-to-back wins. This is our first time ever beating Bay — they've been a bit of a bogey team for us since they've been in the league. To get three more points on the road is huge, and now we've got two weeks at home, which sounds amazing because we feel like we've not been at home much. So hopefully we can push on from here because I think we've set ourselves up in a really good spot now, but we've got to take our opportunity now at home."
On Jess Fishlock's impact coming off the bench and her influence even when not playing:
"When I saw the ball go over the top and Jess had got half a yard in front, I was just like, this is either a goal or a penalty, because she's that type of player, over however many years she's been at this club now — 14th season is it? She's done things like that so often. Unfortunately she pulled up a little bit after that. Hopefully it won't be too bad, but we'll have to wait and see on that. But if that's the last time we see her for a while, what a way to sort of go out. I've never been with a group who — the only word I can use is crave Jess — in regards to her influence. When she's been with the group and not got minutes, she's been hugely impactful to them, just being either a motivating voice on the side or a tactical lens because she sees the game a little bit different, and the young players gravitate to her. It's actually really cool to see, it's really heartwarming, and I think they'll be all petrified and devastated when she's not here. So the fact that she could influence the game the way she did was amazing, but I think the crazy thing about Jess this year is how much she's impacted the team when she hasn't been on the field, which I think speaks volumes to the human she is, the leader she is, the captain she is, and how influential she is on this group."
On Mia Fishel finally getting an open-play goal:
"Really happy for her, because she does a lot of the hard work — as forwards, they don't get stats for that, they don't get credit on the score sheet for that. But when you do all of that hard work and you get the reward of either an assist or a goal, it makes it all worthwhile. I think since the summer break, that's what she's been pushing towards. I think her performances have been pretty consistent on both sides of the ball — she obviously got the penalty in Gotham and then gets that open play goal tonight. And you can just see how much it means with the group too, how the group responds to her, because they know the amount of work that she's putting in for us and for herself, which was great."
On whether Jess Fishlock is becoming an unofficial coach in training:
"Jess has been like that ever since I've known her — I started coaching her when she was 24. She's just always had the coaching tactical mindset, probably is the best way to describe her. She just sees the game, thankfully, in a very similar way to me, or we probably wouldn't have lasted as long as we have, and she can help push the other players in that regard. Growing up in the UK, we were always taught and coached how not to lose, and the American winning mentality — the mix of those two things tactically I've always believed is a winning secret weapon. And Jess has layered that in — I look at people like Sammy [Meza] and Ainsley [McCammon] and Sally [Menti], even though she's not on the field with them, the stuff she does with them in the week, all of those little nuances of the game — she's just always been like that. If she sees things, she'll say it, and sometimes it'll be very similar to what I'm seeing, sometimes it might be a little bit different. I don't know when they showed us talking, but I was also talking to her about the role she was going to play coming on the field, which again is her job — to come on and, if she's going to come on, try to impact the game in some way, which obviously she did."
On Emeri Adames' performance and assist:
"Emeri always knows — she hears the same thing from me all the time — that when Emeri commits to her defensive role, we sort of know what she brings offensively, and I thought she did that again today. I thought she did that last week in San Diego and maybe didn't get the reward of the assist or a goal, but tonight she got the reward of doing her defensive role, which is really important when we're winning, and then got the reward of an assist to go with it, which is great."

Dahlien: "Yeah, definitely one of my top performances. But I think it was just a really good collective performance. I think my teammates did a really good job of getting me in dangerous spots, and then Mia was able to get in a dangerous spot and finish off my crosses, and we've been working on that so much. So I think it was just a really good collective performance, but definitely a fun game to be a part of."
On settling into a role in Seattle after scoring again:
Fishel: "I've felt settled in for a long time. We knew the goals were going to come. I feel like we've been consistent, our performances and how we've been wanting to play. We've been showing it in training and now it's showing on the field, so that's been amazing."
On being surprised by the space out wide early on:
Dahlien: "Yeah, definitely, anytime there's that much space I'm going to take it. But like I said, I wouldn't be in that space if my teammates aren't playing those balls in. And we just did a really good job of game planning for that, and that comes from scouting — we saw that their right back got a little bit higher, so we were able to expose that pretty early on."
On what the win does for the group's confidence:
Dahlien: "I think it's really good, putting back-to-back performances together. Obviously there are things that we still want to clean up, and I think we need to get better at getting our momentum back in the second half and staying consistent in that. But there's pieces definitely that we're going to be proud of and just continue to grow."
On seeing Jess Fishlock come on late and make the impact she did:
Fishel: "I personally felt bad coming off the field the way that I did, I mean, it sucked that I felt something. But then I feel like when I saw Jess coming in, it was like a huge burst of energy from the bench and also the players — seeing her come on the field, she instantly changes the game. When I have stuff before the game, she's the one constantly talking to us from the bench, so when she's in the game she has amazing things — she's our GOAT, and we had full belief that she was going to do what she did in the game, it's just like it was going to happen. She's always clutch, so it doesn't surprise us, and yeah, she's amazing."
On the improved attack since returning from the international break:
Dahlien: "I think it was just trusting the process. I think we have such talented players, and it was just when the pieces were going to mesh and come together. I think for us now it's just continuing to stay consistent, not complacent, and continuing to put goals in, because our defense just does such amazing work. And I know in the first half we were feeling a little bad about not putting numbers up, but I think we're really getting into a flow, and I just hope we can continue to push."
On Emeri Adames' performance and assist:
Fishel: "Emeri's been doing amazing in training, she's been working so hard, and personally I've been just trying to talk to her and be like, continue to do what you're doing, your time will come, your moments will come on the field, and she did exactly what she's been doing in training, and it's cool to see her get an assist and contribute to today's win because she's been doing great."
Dahlien: "I think also to go off that, we trusted our bench so much, and I think Brit [Ratcliffe] really made an impact too, just bringing the energy, and Coco [Mondesir] too. And that's just really important for us moving forward to have that depth."
