Fresh off being named to the MLS 22-under-22, Reed Baker-Whiting has now been named to the United States men’s national team roster ahead of a Concacaf Nations League quarterfinal against Haiti.
The Seattle native and Sounders Academy product played this season for Nashville SC and established himself as a starter for the Supporters’ Shield winners while mostly playing as a left back. Along the way, he logged nearly 2,200 minutes across all competitions with three goals and five assists. That’s about twice as many minutes as he ever played in any of his five seasons with the Sounders.
Having no clear path to starter’s minutes with the Sounders, Baker-Whiting was transfered to Nashville in February for $800,000 plus $300,000 in bonuses. The Sounders also retained a 20% sell-on.
Baker-Whiting, 21, is the only uncapped player to get called into this camp, which features what is mostly a first-choice group.
The first leg of the series will be played Miami on Nov. 14 and the USA will host the second leg three days later in Cincinnati, Ohio.
