LINEUPS: Ryan Kent will get his first MLS start, effectively replacing Pedro de la Vega.
The Seattle Sounders will face the Houston Dynamo for the second time this year, but the opponent looks quite a bit different than their previous meeting about seven weeks ago.
The Dynamo are both healthier and have added some reinforcements since that game, with Jonathan Bond, Ondrej Lingr, Jack McGlynn all having been added and centerback Erik Sviatchenko now fully fit.
The Dynamo have also started putting together results, going 2-2-2 in league play since the previous meeting and beating Phoenix Rising in the U.S. Open Cup earlier this week. Notably, that game went to extra time and the Dynamo ended up using quite a few starters. It will be interesting to see if that forces any rotation in this game.
The Sounders, meanwhile, seem to be hitting their stride. They’ve gone 3-1-2 since that previous meeting and are coming off a resounding 4-1 win over St. Louis City on Saturday. Ryan Kent is also expected to get his first MLS start.
Notes
- Danny Musovski is riding a four-game scoring streak, which is tied for the fourth longest in Sounders history. If he scores in this game, he’d be tied for the second longest scoring streak.
- Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer won his 130th regular-season game last week, putting him in the top 10 all-time among MLS coaches.
- Osaze De Rosario signed a first-team contract this week and will be eligible for selection.
- The Sounders are 5-1-2 in their last eight trips to Houston, which includes a tie in last year’s playoffs that they ultimately won in a shootout.
