Given the extreme silence around the Seattle Sounders’ transfer activity, one could start to believe that maybe they weren’t even looking. It appears we can at least put that theory to rest.
Sounder at Heart’s Niko Moreno is reporting that the Sounders have targeted Danish forward Casper Tengstedt as a potential transfer. The 26-year-old currently plays for Feyenoord of the Eredivisie, but has previously played in both Portugal and Italy.
Transfermarkt estimates Tengstedt's value at close to $4 million, while Fotmob estimates he might be worth closer to $3.3 million. About three years ago, he completed a €7 million move to Benfica from Denmark's Rosenborg BK and just a year ago Feyenoord paid €6 million. Combined with a salary that would likely be well over $1 million, it seems like a stretch the Sounders would be able to get him without a Designated Player spot to use.
If the Sounders could find a way to sign him, he does have some promising numbers. He had five goals in about 600 minutes across all competitions last year, including two goals in Europa League play. A year earlier he had seven goals in about 1,550 minutes for Hellas Verona in Serie A and Coppa Italia play.
