The Seattle Sounders selected centerback Jonathan Bell in Thursday’s first stage of the Re-Entry Draft, one of only two teams to make a pick. Austin FC selected Jader Obrian from FC Dallas.

Bell, 26, spent last season with St. Louis City after they had selected him in the Expansion Draft. Although he only appeared in three matches and logged just 132 minutes in 2023, he did play more extensively in two previous seasons with the New England Revolution. He logged 819 minutes for the Revolution during their record-breaking 2021 Supporters’ Shield campaign and followed that up with 1,054 minutes in 2022. Bell, who is an American citizen, also has one national team cap with Jamaica.

Bell, who is currently unsigned, is most likely seen as a potential AB Cissoko replacement. The Sounders must now make Bell a “bona fide” offer in order to retain his MLS rights.
