The Seattle Sounders will take a four-match unbeaten streak into tonight's game with the Colorado Rapids and can even jump into a playoff position if they can win for the first time in about four months. That's as much of a commentary on the state of the expanded playoffs as it is anything good that the Sounders have done, and getting a result against the Rapids will go a long way toward determining what is still possible.
As play begins, the Sounders are just seven points behind the seventh-place Rapids with two games in hand. A win might not only put them into a playoff spot but it makes getting out of the play-in round reasonably attainable.
The Rapids, though, pose a significant hurdle. They have not even allowed a goal in six straight home games in league play and their nine home wins are tied for the most in the Western Conference.
