The only window that matters now is the trophy window

The number of years when the Seattle Sounders haven't competed for a trophy (let's call that being in the final four of a knockout or going into the last two weeks of the season within six points of the Shield) is extremely small.

Extremely. Small.

2015 - almost cost Sigi his job; he'd lose it in the next year.

2018 - an odd blip during the MLS Cup runs.

2023 - barely beaten from the Conference crown, but crushed in the Shield.

That's it.

We're Seattle Sounders fans. We're blessed with an org that over its history competes for trophies.

This year is probably closest to 2015 in tenor. That year the club crashed out of the regular season in a spiral of doom. In 2026 that's happening right now.

And like 2015, the Open Cup and the CCL/CCC were out of touch.

There's only one trophy left worth pursuing – Nashville's only competition in the Shield race is itself – MLS Cup.

With the transfer window closed, only free agents can meaningfully make an additional impact. They should not be expected, though it would be a lot of fun.

During the window the big win was taking on Dejan Joveljić, who already sprung out to the Sounders scoring leaderboard with a single brace. Deki is tied for sixth in goals for the club.

Adding Caden Clark is the type of flyer Seattle is good at taking. There's essentially no budget involved and no long-term commitment if it doesn’t work out.

The Albert Rusnák contract rework is nice. It may show other players how to extend their time on the Sound while the club competes again soon.

They sent Osaze de Rosario off to Denmark on a short loan with option for that club to buy.

BUT...

There are still open roster spots, open budget, open U22s, open opportunities.

And there's one final trophy to pursue.

This is the crew with the opportunity.

Former giants, cut down too many times with injury. Youngsters who came up watching those trophy runs. Savvy vets passed over by other orgs. Players who've seen the training table more than the standings.

Sounders.
